Apple may not build new, enlarged reality goggles

Apple has reportedly scrapped a project to create new, Augmented Reality glasses that would carefully fit into the rest of its device’s ecosystem. The team that worked on the project was notified about the decision in the last week of January, according to sources familiar with the decision and reported by Bloomberg.

How would Apple’s AR go glasses?

Unlike bulky virtual reality, the glasses code called N107 design is to look like standard glasses, including conventional overpieces instead of a heavy band. Apple originally planned that the glasses started in 2027.

The glasses are expected to contain ‘micro-type screens’, enabling users to see text, images and videos directly in their field of vision. Engineers have reportedly tested to integrate the device with an iPhone and a Mac, but technical barriers have prevented progress.

Apple’s AR glasses significantly affected the battery life of the iPhone, and the team struggled to match the processing power of the device according to the claims of the glasses. If it was accompanied by a Mac, the product could not meet the executive expectations due to performance problems.

These challenges eventually resulted in Apple abandoning the project, According to Bloomberg. However, the development of a next generation of Apple Vision Pro remains not affected.

What is Apple’s place in the Augmented Reality Market?

Apple’s strategy with emerging technologies such as AI was to wait competitors and release a version with a fixed position among Apple’s existing products. The company followed this approach with Apple Intelligence, which improved its existing chatbot, Siri. Apple seems to be applying the same strategy to AR glasses.

Competitors such as Meta and Google continued with Ray-Bans, the Meta Quest and Android XR. Meta’s independent -supplemented reality goggles called Orionis intended to launch for consumers in 2027. Apple’s now -shredded glasses would also have competed with similar offers from Xreal and Lenovo, which produce both manufacturers smart glasses.

In terms of size and shape, Apple’s Vision Pro Line stands on the line between Augmented Reality Glasses and virtual reality heads. The semitrans parent headset is intended to bring “spatial computer” into a home or office environment, but it does not serve the same function as the smaller enlarged reality glasses.

According to Bloomberg, the Apple Vision Pro struggled to get a traction with customers because of its great size and the price tag of $ 3,499. Some consumers have reported headache and eye tension. Instead of changing information on the actual environment, the ‘spatial computer’ device projects a virtual reality screen.
