Lucid worked on his second EV for years-a soft of-like SUV designed to be the category killer who can take market share of other luxury EV and internal combustion people such as the Rivian R1s, Cadillac Escalade IQ, BMW X7 and Audi Q8.
The purpose of the Saudi-backed company was to create an SUV without compromise-an elevated purpose that other car manufacturers previously tried. After a first ride in the EV, which has a starting price of $ 96,550, it is clear that the company focused more than just luxury touch. Although there is enough.
The clear gravity may just be too much engineer at best. The EV is loaded with technology and upgrades of its predecessor, the bright air sedan. Former Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson and CTO, who went aside in February, may no longer be with the company, but his fingerprints of engineering are all over the new, bright gravity.
And although customers may never see the technology under the proverbial hood, they will experience it.
The bright gravity has up to 450 miles from the EPA-rated series, a zero to 60 mph time below 3.5 seconds, and load times unheard for current EVs. According to the company, gravity can charge up to 200 miles in just 11 minutes on DC Fast cloth, thanks to a new boost mode that uses the rear car as a transformer to increase the drawer.
All these luxury, techniques and space do have a price. The price tag of the vehicle varies between 96.550 for the two-row Grand Touring finish to $ 99.450 for the three-row version. It is expected that a ‘cheaper’ will arrive $ 81,550 tour model later this year.
Lucid Gravity’s technical bowels

Engineers who work on gravity have taken what they learned from Lucid Air Sapphire and the Lucid Air, to create the company’s new Gen 2 system that supports the SUV. This includes a new battery developed in partnership with Panasonic (which, according to Lucid, offers a 40% improvement of 40% over the competitive set), a new drive unit, a new thermal system and a new loading system.
Specifically, engineers have created a system that enables bright gravity to download 225 kW on 500-volt architecture (which supports Tesla’s V3 loaders) chargers and up to 400 kW on 1000 volt loaders (supporting Tesla’s new V4-cargers this year).
In order to do this, engineers used the gravity’s car and converter as a transformer to increase 500-volt drawers to the required tension of the battery without adding extra hardware. They also implemented plug-and-load for the system so that owners do not have to pay with payment and levy with certain chargers.

The changes are part of Tesla’s North American load standard that came out last year. The announcement of the standard comes at a time when the development of gravity was almost complete.
The updated standard required a significant reconsideration of the underpinnings of gravity when it developed about 70% at the end of 2022 and early 2023, according to Emad Delala, the senior vice president of PowerTrain at Lucid.
“When I joined in 2015, 400 volts was the modern art,” Delala said. “We quickly realized that we should take it to the next level,” he continued, “we have developed a new technology that enabled a legacy 500 volt-loading architecture through a future 1000 volt loading characterist. What we learned from the sky in 2021 was completely changed. ‘
The team behind Gravity has also made a number of hardware changes to add discharge, support its infotainment system, and to eventually add the business to its advanced driver aid system.
The company uses Nvidia’s orin-X processors for AI perception and video processing for its advanced driver assistance system, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 for Infotainment, and Infineon TC397 for vehicle dynamics and body control.
The Gravity today offers the so -called Level 2 automatic management, a system that automates some of the management, but that the driver still has to pay attention. Lucid intends to eventually offer level 3 or L3, which typically rides on the highways on the highways in certain circumstances.
According to the company, the upcoming Dream Drive 2 Pro, an upgrade of its ASAs, and will function, and will offer functions such as visualization of up to five jobs of traffic, curve speed control, assistance change, Curb Rash Alert and automatic parking.
Lucid Gravity: cargo and passenger space

Gravity is designed to be spacious to residents and their load. And engineers and designers have achieved that goal. The interior is Kaverneus inside with a huge 120 cubic foot inside space, which according to Lucid is 40% more than the closest participant.
It seems to be an attempt to avoid fuse, they contributed to this.
According to Jean-Phillipe Gauthier, head of software engineering at Lucid, the company wanted to find a way not to use fuse as they had to access regularly if they were blowing, and they tend to take up precious inside space that can be used for cargo and passengers.
Instead, Lucid decided to use distributors in the gravity, which is essentially electronic switches. These distributors automatically repair when the car is jumped off, respond faster to shorts in the system, eliminate the potential error to install a fuse with the wrong office star during replacement and let the luscas bury deeper in the vehicle instead of undergoing the inner space. Distributors can also decrease unnecessary systems and reduce parasitic losses in the vehicle.
To prove that gravity was more wider than its competitors, the EV manufacturer presented a Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Rivian R1s and BMW X7 at the event in Los Olivios, California. Reporters were challenged to take boxes that filled the gravity (including the spacious fruind) and stack it in the EQS -SUV.
It was an impossible task and with no other close participant at hand. One co-journalist who happened to be 6 feet would lie down in the afternoon in the back of the gravity and close the rear hatch without any problems.
Lucid Gravity on the Road

Gravity is large and measures an enormous 198.2 inch long and 87.2 inches wide. This puts the EV -SUV slightly under the Chevrolet Suburban in size. Still, the vehicle is massive, which helps to increase the interior.
Typically, full-sized SUVs with that kind of footprint tend to be inside and giant roll puppies on the road, making them uncomfortable to push, especially on winding roads.
Not so with the bright gravity.
I made the gravity of Nipomo, California on the central coast along the highway Cuyama and Tepusquet Road, a steep, one lane, sharp winding road, to loose Olivos for my test drive and it was surprisingly pleasant and dare I say, nice to drive.
Gravity is heavy (6,000 pounds in the three-row option I drove). I did feel a little of the weight on the road. However, after placing the vehicle in its comfortable environment, known as ‘smooth’, it handled it easily with the highway and broad whipers.
I switched it to Swift for Tepusquet Road, and the adaptable dampers and air springs ate the rough waves and curves without upsetting the vehicle, or at any time. It was so smooth on that winding road in the fast environment that my passenger fell asleep.
The gravity gets rear wheel steering when equipped with the dynamic package (adding about $, 2900 to the base price), giving you an extra 3 degree rear wheel steering in phase and outside the phase, depending on how fast (or slowly) you move.
That rear wheel steering increases the dexterity of the vehicle and absorbs less off the road as it rides on a single-lane mountain roads and even ground lane, which I did try on a local farm where Lucid set up a rally cross experience for us.
Even when pressed (and slipping) by the dirt, the gravity remained strikingly flat and comfortable. And yes, you can do some very light off-road driving with gravity because it gets 7 inches of ground clearance that can rise to 9-plus of clearance when lifted.
One of the surprising things I liked most about gravity was the so -called squircal steering wheel. After the other vehicles have been driving with (stupid) yokes, the square circle wheel leaves the gravity even more agile and responds, and the electrical-supported stretch and the steering of the Pinion is adjusted to be absolutely on the spot: where you show the wheel, the vehicle goes without any porridge.
Lucid also set up one pedal drive to be so intuitive that I don’t have to touch the braking on the winding roads around loose Olivos.
In general, it is clear that the seven-passenger-electric SUV after more than four years in development provides remarkable scope and efficiency, agility and functionality for a wealthy buyer looking for an ‘US manufactured’ vehicle that is not a Tesla.
